Journal

What’s the Journal? Well, I’m glad you asked.

First, I was inspired by ‘journal’, from French, meaning newspaper, which invites regular posts. While I love longform, I felt like a distinct space for lighter, regular pieces was necessary.

I also pulled from the verb, ‘to journal’, obviously this time from English. This place is, as a result, both a personal diary, closer to daily life, and where I will be telling you about news, updates, and other things that are going on with Out of the Clouds.

So here it is, the Journal: short bites on life, announcements, an easy read for you regular readers. Discover below

An ode to notebooks

If you’ve ever kept a diary, or like me, still commit to writing in a notebook every day , then you can imagine that this journal is a public folder of my notes. I didn’t grow up keeping a diary. It’s not until 2017 that I started the practice of morning pages, a daily commitment to three pages of stream of consciousness thoughts, which I very rarely miss. My scribbling on notebooks for weeks, months, and now years, has certainly encouraged the writing that ensued. Migrating from paper to digital, this Journal is a public folder, a cleaned-up, natural extension of what started a few years back, with a pen and pencil, when I was sitting down on my sofa. Expect personal, short-form content, on a multiplicity of topics and personal adventures. Enjoy!

21 Days of Mindfulness & Loving Kindness

A New Year’s challenge for those seeking to experience the benefits of a regular meditation practice

Sometimes all we need is an excuse to start something new. For me, and perhaps you too, the start of a new year is the perfect occasion to get on top of the change we want to see happen in our lives. So I initiated a 21 day challenge, with 15 minutes each day to offer you a taste of the many different forms of mindfulness and compassion meditations. Curious why I chose to make it 21 days? Read on for that story.

Meeting our needs this July

Sharing my longtime favourite teachers with you

Who we find to guide us when we navigate life, whether on rough or still waters, is often what makes the journey. Teaching is a big responsibility, and great teachers are people who give us the space to develop the tools we need for a life well lived. Here, I list my favourites in hope that they too can become resources to support you.

The Food & Thought Program

Unlock the power of three: coaching, mindfulness & nutrition

I’m excited to be partnering with my friend, the fabulous marketer turned naturopathic nutritionist Neil Bridgeman, for what we dubbed the Food & Thought Program.  After a few conversations, before and after I interviewed Neil for the podcast just over a year ago, we have come to realise that combining our talents to link coaching, mindfulness…

Pausing and my a-ha moment

Away from default mode and moving towards choice

By pausing and exploring the choices we have, the smallest actions we take can be the seeds of the change we want to see.

An ah-ha moment, and making a conscious choice, allows Anne to re-align with her dreams to make them a reality.

MIND-FULL-NESS

How we can give ourselves the gift of mindfulness

How have you been? Around here, the last few weeks have been hard — practising my daily meditation was nearly impossible for days on end because of an epic chest infection that I am still getting over, four weeks on.   Stillness feels like a dream of the past (oh, the dream). I sit upright on…

A Picture Worth Taking

Many people—the shy and introverted among us, especially—don’t like to find themselves as the subject of a camera’s focus. Anne, more comfortable behind the scenes (like many PR’s), chose to stay there for as long as possible. A nice and cosy spot where she wasn’t risking any over exposure.

How to install a meditation practice & upcoming workshops

If you are anything like me, there are plenty of habits that you’d like to change, some you’d like to give up, and others, like meditation, that you would really enjoy developing.
But it’s hard to fit it into our lives. And sometimes it’s hard to just do it!
Yet when we are fully present with our minds, we gain stability and clarity, we find more resilience — doesn’t that sound worth developing?

A Bird Cannot Fly With One Wing

For a life well lived, we need both wings.
A wise mind alone doesn’t serve us if we don’t know how to live. Why we need to cultivate insights through mindfulness practice, the first wing, alongside the second wing of loving kindness and compassion.

Find connection through Loving Kindness

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of leading a guided meditation on Loving Kindness. Before starting to draw the outline of the talk and meditation, I thought to myself: if I could sum it up in a couple of words, what is the most important thing that I can convey about Loving Kindness?

Winter Refresh

It’s time to clear a few things. I don’t mean to clear things up, rather, in my case, I suffer from a light seasonal disorder that I like to call Winter Cleaning. Essentially, it is the cold weather equivalent of the Spring clean that most of you may be familiar with.

Why mindfulness?

The word itself never really spoke to me. Whether or not you are a mindfulness meditation practitioner, here’s a refresher as to some of the many reasons why the ancestral teachings are here not to make us good at meditation, but to make us better at life.
